North Beach Story, is an award winning screenplay that is in early stages of development as a feature film, a limited series or an episodic series. It has placed in a number of film festivals and screenplay competitions, and early industry feedback indicates the storyline is very commercial. Mona’s North Beach Noir is a standalone short film that will be used to introduce Mitch, the main character, and the world of 1950s San Francisco to build audience. It will be included in the business plan and other development materials for future stakeholders of the larger project. It has been submitted to 25+ LGBTQ film festivals starting in May, 2024 and has already been named official selection in the LGBTQ+ Unbordered FIlm Festival, Seattle Film Festival, Silicon Valley Queer Film Festival, and Gilbert Baker Film Festival , three of which will stream Mona's to the broader internet audience.
Mona’s is a compelling story about Mitch Marlowe, who has assumed the identity of her deceased twin brother, in order to work as a detective under the mentorship of her uncle Phillip Marlowe. Modern day terminology would describe Mitch as a transman, but this is the 50s when LGBTQ life was very much underground and wearing too much of the wrong kind of clothes could get you arrested or worse. Mona’s 440 Club was a famous lesbian cabaret in San Francisco and where our short film takes place. This is a well-researched story that will bring to life what it was like to be part of a marginalized community in the era of the lavender scare and McCarthyism.
